Losing All Respect for Johnny Mac

The truth?

In essence, Obama supported “age appropriate” sex-education for children as a means of teaching them what was proper or inproper touching, as well as to protect them against pedophiles, his campaign has said. Used in the context of the McCain campaign ad, however, Obama’s stance becomes another one of those cultural issues that seems designed to alienate the Illinois Democrat from more socially moderate voters.

And very quickly, the Obama campaign came out with a hard hitting response, pointing to a series of education accomplishments made by Obama, and calling McCain “perverse” for the latest attack.

“It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton. (from Sam Stein)

John McCain is better than this. He’s teetering on the scumbag scale here. I guess it’s not a surprise that Karl Rove has been confirmed as an official consultant of the campaign.

The hits keep on coming……

This HAS to be fake:

“Mark Driscoll, Pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, took a dramatic stand against girly men at a Pastor’s Conference in Houston last week.

The conference, called “re:tool and re:load,” previously billed as “jesus 2.0,” featured speakers from around the country with the stated focus of “Making the Gospel and Missiology Relevant to Post Modern Culture.” Speaking at the last session of the conference, Driscoll focused his three-and-a-half-hour talk on the need for pastors to be more alpha.

“The problem with our churches today is that the lead pastor is some sissy boy who wears cardigan sweaters, has The Carpenters dialed in on his iPod, gets his hair cut at a salon instead of a barber shop, hasn’t been to an Ultimate Fighting match, works out on an elliptical machine instead of going to isolated regions of Russia like in Rocky IV in order to harvest lumber with his teeth, and generally swishes around like Jack from Three’s Company whenever Mr. Roper was around.”

Pacing the stage in a vaguely threatening manner, Driscoll focused on Biblical examples. “Jesus and Paul were serious dudes. They had teeth missing. Jesus was a carpenter, Paul was in prison. These guys didn’t eat tofu dogs and bean sprouts. They didn’t play tennis. If there were trucks back in their times, they would have been doing driveway lube jobs on a Saturday afternoon. Same thing with King David. Yeah, he might have played a lyre, but he slaughtered thousands of guys.”

The problem here is that it’s difficult to determine if this is real or not. There are some parts of the article that are clearly satire while the actual Driscoll quote seems totally in step with many of his own previously recorded remarks. Either way, Driscoll’s act is seems to stem from a profuse insecurity in one’s own masculinity. That might be the understatement of understatements. It’s like when Ted Haggard fixated on making sure everyone knew how he believed being Gay was an abomination. I’m officially leaving this dude alone now. It’ obvious that he’s in need of pity, not ridicule.

YouTubing Driscoll is Fun

Didn’t David “kiss and weep” with Jonathan? Didn’t David say that Jonathan’s love for him was greater than the love of any woman? (that’s so un-Driscollish) And Driscoll is saying with certainty that David was exclusively hetero? I guess if you slaughter about bunch of women and children, that makes up for your alleged gay encounters. Either way, I wonder what the women at Mark’s church feel when they hear that “if you don’t get the young men, you get nothing.” What a thoughtful and pastoral notion……to diminish well more than half your congregants.

There are so many tasty nuggets here. Oh, and when Paul was a young guy, wasn’t he systematically mass-murdering Jesus followers? Yeah, let’s hang out with THAT guy. Good lookin’ out, Mark.

(Rob, you looked quite handsome in that quick edit)

Halliburton CEO Superbowl Party in Iraq

This story in the L.A. Times almost made me throw-up on my laptop.

If American tax-payers are going to be billed for a fancy Super Bowl party, it could at least have been for the soldiers who are in harms way. I guess this what you ask for when handing out no-bid contracts to big corporations for the reconstruction of a country you’ve just bombed to bits. Gotta love the “spreading of democracy”!
