Let me give you the state of the race today. We have 22 days to go. We’re 6 points down. The national media has written us off. Senator Obama is measuring the drapes, and planning with Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid to raise taxes, increase spending, take away your right to vote by secret ballot in labor elections, and concede defeat in Iraq. But they forgot to let you decide. My friends, we’ve got them just where we want them.
This is from speech during a McCain rally in Arlington, Virginia. McCain was putting on a good face for his supporters. You can read his prepared remarks in full here. First, it’s funny that we are roughly three weeks out form election day and McCain and Palin are holding joint rally in Virginia, which hasn’t voted Democrat since LBJ. Right where you want them, indeed.
On one hand, I can understand that McCain is just trying to display confidence and calm in the face of diminishing odds. But on the other hand, it just seems silly. It’s more of the up is down, right is left, we’ll be greeted as liberators, heckuva job Brownie that we’ve heard over the past eight years. Instead of portraying a confidence, it has the danger of just coming off as a severe case of denial. The same kind of denial that’s led this country in the Bush administration and I think voters, especially swing voters, pick up on this nonsense.
